Support Groups The Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin sponsors a variety of support groups. We urge you to connect to the group in your area or the special interest group that meets your needs. Becoming connected to others who understand is a great benefit for understanding autism and the effects on the family. ASSEW Support Groups Milwaukee Area Support Group- Enjoy relaxed conversation with other parents and caregivers involved with autism spectrum disorders the first Thursday of the month 9:30am-11:30am at the ASSEW office. This group does not meet in July. Beverages and light refreshments are provided. Adults on the Spectrum- Support group for anyone 18 and older with Autism, Asperger's Syndrome or PDD. Independent Support Groups in Your Area These support groups are run independently of the Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin and are not officially affiliated with ASSEW. For more information about these groups and their meetings, call or email the contact person listed. Autism Parents of SE WI Online discussions and monthly social meetings. www.asdsewi.org Ozaukee and Surrounding Counties-Autism Spectrum Support Group Primarily a support group for parents with children under 18. Professionals are welcome. Contact Kim Dobberfuhl 262-376-1250 Kenosha County Family Ties - Contact Ginger Fobart for more information: 262-652-3031. Wisconsin Family Ties, Inc. is a statewide not for profit organization run by families that include children and adolescents who have emotional, behavioral and mental disorders. Meetings are the 2nd Saturday of every month, 10am to noon at St Mary's Lutheran Church, 2001 80th St., Kenosha Kenosha County Parent Support Group- Contact Patricia Herr for more information: 262-657-3615. Walworth County Support Group-Our purpose is to support families of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center, W3985 County Road NN, Elkhorn. County Support Group- The
group meets from 7-9 PM on the first Tuesday of every month with the exception
of July (no meeting) and December (second Tuesday) in the Lac LaBelle
conference room in the West Bend Support Group (Quirks)- Formed by the West Bend School District, this group is for parents of children with autism spectrum disorders. Meeting time and dates vary. Contact Kathy Multerer: 262-334-1184
Special Interest Support Groups AUsome Social Group- Teens with Asperger Syndrome join together for social activities. For further information contact : ausome_milw@yahoo.com Biological Treatments Support Group- This group discusses biological treatments such as diet, medications, supplements and testing. This is a forum for the exchange of information among parents and family members. Meetings are held at St. Francis Hospital, 3237 S. 16th St. in the Felician Board Room.
